After a thorough exploration of complex geometries in the vertical and horizontal planes, I decided to further my study through the marriage of the two planes. Additionally, after mastering radial organization and designing around non-orthogonal angles, I was well equipped to combine both skills. In doing so, I created a composition of stacked shapes: triangle, half circle, rectangle and a square.
I again created a distinct separation of public and private spaces. On the first level of the house, I employed the square shape to be the kitchen. Additionally, there are multiple dining spaces and two courtyards. The perimeter of the first floor deck was inscribed by the structures directly above. The second level used the below courtyards as points of circulation. I made all of the walkways outside to create an extreme separation of private spaces. The walkways wrap around the openings for the courtyards, and connect each structure to the other. A pattern of vertical joists connect the walkways to the roofs above which makes for stunning shadows and obstructed views.
Each of the rooms are organized by back and front of the house programming by placing the bathrooms in each room on the end, opposite to that of the walkway. This allowed for the prioritization of interior views - I was able to place windows on the walls facing the walkway to redirect the views.
The first bedroom accessible from the stairs is in the shape of a triangle. Maintaining the back of the house module, I placed the bathroom in the furthest corner from the entry. I had to confront the acute angles in the room and made perpendicular thickenings in each corner to be used as shelves. The second bedroom occupies the rectangle shape and has two entries - one acting as the primary entry to the room, the second opens to a deck that makes space on top of the kitchen below. The items in the room are organized symmetrically with the bed placed in the center of the room, and the closet space and bathroom directly behind it. The third and final bedroom is the half circle. Instead of using radial organization as I did in my vertical home, I designed sections of the room to be used as the different spaces.
